Mozart’s Symphonies
The genius Mozart wrote his symphonies literally all through life, and he was merely nine years old when he wrote his first. The symphonies represent some of the most beautiful music ever written, and he said about one of them, “I have been aware of the fact that it should mean something to both the amateur and the connoisseur in the audience”.
Since 1999, Adam Fischer and The Danish Radio Sinfonietta have worked with the music of Mozart, covering both the early and the late parts of his oeuvre. Therefore, it has been a natural matter of course to begin the recording of all the symphonies. The recording begins in the middle of Mozart’s oeuvre, and last to be recorded are the earliest and latest of his symphonies.
In all, the project embraces 45 symphonies. The definition of a symphony is up for discussion concerning Mozart. Mozart himself used some of the symphonies as overtures, and he also rearranged serenades into symphonies. In the end however, we are convinced that no one will be disappointed in our choices - except perhaps for the disappointing feeling of wanting even more of his beautiful music included.
On this website you can hear music samples, download the music, read articles on the events at the time of Mozart, and gain an insight into Adams Fischer’s thoughts on each symphony. Furthermore, we aim to offer a useful and exhaustive collection of links to other Mozart websites around the world.
The symphonies are also released on CD in case you should want an impressive collection at home or an excellent present. The CDs are distributed by Dacapo.
